Pricing model

Pricing development work

Software pricing should separate implementation, discovery, testing, deployment and technical uncertainty. A low hourly rate does not protect against unclear scope.

Recommended approach

Use a buffered project price for defined scope. For discovery, price a paid analysis phase or use a retainer.

Starting preset

Typical preset: 40 hours, 15% risk, 10% revision allowance and separate third-party costs.

The values show a pricing structure, not an average market rate.

Checklist before quoting

  • Scope and outcome are defined clearly.
  • Preparation, communication and handover are included.
  • Revision rounds or work allowance are documented.
  • External costs have an identified payer.
  • Scope changes have a separate pricing rule.
